    VXLAN IRB: symmetric vs asymmetric, cuándo usar cada uno

    VXLAN IRB es cómo los leafs rutean entre VNIs. Dos sabores — elige mal y no escalas.

    Qué es realmente IRB

    • Cada leaf tiene anycast gateway: mismo IP/MAC en todo VTEP.
    • Sin hairpinning.

    Asymmetric IRB

    • Leaf ingreso: rutea directo entre VNIs, luego bridge.
    • Leaf egreso: solo bridge.
    • Problema: todo leaf necesita todos los VNIs.

    Symmetric IRB

    • Usa L3 VNI por VRF.
    • Leaf solo necesita VNIs locales. Escala.

    Por qué ganó symmetric

    • Menos MAC/ARP por leaf.
    • Multi-tenancy limpio.
    • Necesario para Type 5.

    Defaults por fabricante

    • Cisco, Arista, Juniper, Aruba — todos symmetric por default.
